SMITH STUDIO | 14.12.17 - 18.01.2018 | Church Street, Cape Town City Centre
SMITH presents its summer show, Salad, a selection of works celebrating its busiest year to date, covering seven solo shows, five group shows and three major fairs. The exhibition includes contributions from 28 artists, including choice pieces from all seven of the artists who staged solo shows at the gallery in 2017.
Selected works from the SMITH-curated concept show Shall We Move On by creative collective Hoick - which won a special projects booth at this year’s FNB Joburg Art Fair - will also be on show.

The Proof is in The Pudding
A biscuit that one cannot eat creates a craving. A longing for what could have been or what once was. These ornamental biscuit act as a process of memorialisation of a temporal object, a remnant of the fragility of childhood innocence. The ceramic process (similar to the act of baking) - known as ‘firing’ - subjects the biscuits to extreme heat, rendering the biscuits even more brittle and delicate than before. They come as ode to the past that is just out of one’s reach: reminiscent of brighter days.
